TRANSFORMING YOUR LIFE.  LITTLE CHANGES MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

LETTING GO & MOVING ON... OR NOT

No one can hold you prisoner for the mistakes of your past without guarding the gate and keeping track of the key.  The inmate and the warden are trapped in the jail together.

If there are people in your life that refuse to support or recognize your growth, it may be time to let them go, or at least keep them at arm’s length.  Their inability to move on isn’t about you it’s about them.  They cannot recognize in others what they are unable to accomplish themselves.  If they are determined to try and shame you, it is due to their own shame.  If they keep bringing up your past, it is because that is where they live. People who feel good about themselves don’t try to make others feel bad.  The trap, however, only exists in their mind.  Wish them well and leave them to it.  To free yourself, you only need to walk away.

This is so true and an easy concept to grasp but very hard to implement my life and I'm sure I am not alone. Some people are so important to me in many aspects of my life but have this one tendency that unfortunately casts a shadow over all th love I feel for them. I WANT them in my life! I just dont want that one aspect of them to affect me so much. So letting them and their judgements and their past dewelling is logical and right except that i then lose all the other thngs about them that I want to keep in my life. Does that make any sense?

Hi Dorian!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and honest comment. You make a fabulous point and it’s one to which I can completely relate! Perhaps you’d agree that this concept fits nicely into the “Simple But Not Easy” file? Walking away is a great talking point but isn’t always so cut and dry when it comes to applying it to real people who we love, is it? I feel, at least for me, it’s something I’ve had to do in stages over time and definitely on a case by case basis. There have been people in my life that were just bad news so it wasn’t so difficult to decide to walk away. For others, with whom it can’t be “stay or go”, perhaps we’ll have to work on setting boundaries. Maybe we look at this as something to move toward and not so much as an all at once or all or nothing situation. It’s definitely a great idea for a future blog!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts moving forward. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog! Amie
